Moving a house in Asheville is rarely just a matter of backing up a truck. Plenty of homes here sit on steep lots, at the end of gravel drives, or up switchbacks off narrow mountain roads. Sectionals, armoires, dressers and dining sets are what make a house move heavy. We plan the route for each one through the house: which door, which turn on the stairs, and where it goes on the truck.
Most local moves finish in a day, two at most. The truck is loaded, driven and unloaded by the same crew. If your closing dates don’t line up, we have secure on-site shared storage to hold your things in between. Much of the Asheville area is built on slopes. The City of Asheville has a separate ordinance for building on steep slopes, defined as land at 2,220 feet or higher with a grade of 15 percent or more. Buncombe County has its own overlay for high, steep land. In practice, that means many homes have steep driveways, front steps cut into a hillside, or a garage below the main floor.
A steep or gravel driveway changes the plan. A loaded box truck may not be able to climb it safely, especially after rain, and it may have no room to turn around at the top. When you ask for a quote, tell us about the grade, the surface, overhanging branches, and where the truck can park, or we’ll check them during a walkthrough. If the truck has to park well below the house, we plan for the longer carry and include it in your quote, so it isn’t a surprise on moving day.
Hurricane Helene damaged an estimated 7,000 private roads, culverts and bridges in Western North Carolina in September 2024. Many have been repaired, and some homes still rely on temporary crossings. If your road, driveway or bridge was rebuilt or patched since the storm, tell us when you call. A temporary crossing or new, soft gravel changes what a loaded truck can safely drive over. Before moving day, our crew checks NCDOT road-closure notices so the route and arrival time hold up.

Weather affects a house move here more than in flatter places.
Every piece of furniture is padded and shrink-wrapped before it leaves the room. If there’s a piece you’re especially careful about, point it out when you book so the crew knows before loading starts.

We never combine loads. The truck and crew that load your house are the ones that unload it, and they work on your move only. We are based at 3 Creek View Drive in Asheville. If you have a question after the move, you talk to the people who did the work.
