Movers and Packers in Asheville, NC

Every room packed, labeled and unpacked by one crew

Full Packing Services in Asheville and Western North Carolina

Packing is the slowest part of nearly every move, and it is where most broken dishes come from. When you hire Dry Ridge Moving as your movers and packers, our crew boxes up the entire home before anything goes on the truck, then unpacks at the new place as many boxes as you want us to.

We pack whole homes, not a room here and there. Either we pack everything, or you pack everything and we take care of the moving. Both options are available for local moves around Asheville and for long-distance moves within the Southeast.

What Full Packing Includes

  • Boxes, packing paper, tape and wrap, brought by the crew
  • Every room packed, closets, cabinets and storage spaces included
  • Dishes, glassware and other breakables wrapped piece by piece
  • Each box labeled with its room and contents
  • Furniture padded and shrink-wrapped for the truck
  • Unpacking at the new home, as many boxes as you choose

Perishable food, open liquids and trash don’t travel well in boxes, so clear the fridge, pantry leftovers and garbage before the crew arrives.

Kitchens, Fragile Pieces and Art

The kitchen takes longer than any other room. It holds the most small, breakable things, and every glass and plate is wrapped on its own before it goes into a box. China, stemware and serving pieces get extra paper and go into boxes marked fragile. Open pantry items such as cooking oil are best used up before packing day.

Framed art, mirrors and lamps take more time still. Point out anything valuable or unusually delicate when you ask for a quote so the crew comes with the right materials. Keep jewelry, important documents and anything irreplaceable with you rather than in a box.

Labels and Getting Ready for Packing Day

Every box we pack is marked with the room it is headed to and a short note about what is inside. At the new home, the crew reads those labels and carries each box straight to its room, so you are not digging through a garage full of cartons looking for the coffee maker.

A little preparation keeps the packers moving. In the days before they arrive:

  • Pick one closet or room for things that are staying behind or riding with you, and tape a do-not-pack sign on the door
  • Finish the laundry and run and empty the dishwasher
  • Empty and defrost the freezer if it is coming along
  • Fill an open-first bag with chargers, medications, toiletries and a change of clothes, and keep it in your car

When the crew arrives, walk the lead packer through every room, including the attic, basement, garage and any sheds, and stay reachable during the day for questions about what goes.

Packing the Day Before or the Same Day

How long packing takes depends on how much you own, how much of it is fragile, and how ready each room is when the crew walks in. Smaller homes are often packed and loaded on the same day. Larger homes, or homes with a lot of breakables, are commonly packed the day before, which leaves loading day free for loading. We will work out the schedule for your home when we put together your estimate.

Unpacking at the New Home

Unpacking is where full packing pays off. Our crew can empty as many boxes as you choose: only the kitchen and bathrooms so you can cook and shower that first night, or every carton in the house. Tell us what you want unpacked when you book.

How Packing Affects Your Estimate

Packing adds crew time and materials, so it changes your estimate. The main factors are the number of rooms, how full the kitchen and storage areas are, and how many fragile or high-value items need extra care. For larger homes, a walkthrough in person or by video helps the estimate match what is really in the cabinets and closets. Smaller homes can often be quoted by phone. Either way, you get a written estimate before moving day.

If you decide to do the packing yourself, say so when you call. Your estimate then covers wrapping the furniture, loading, the drive and unloading. Boxes you pack should be taped shut and marked with their room, so the crew can load them quickly and carry each one to the right place at the new home.
