Mills River Movers for the NC 280 Valley

Mills River is a Henderson County town of about 7,000 people, incorporated in 2003 and still largely farm valley and wooded lots. Dry Ridge Moving has worked out of Asheville since 2006, and we plan Mills River moves around long drives, gated entrances and river-bottom roads.

Moving services for Mills River homes and businesses

Most Mills River households have more room than a city home: barns, sheds, basements and garages that fill a truck faster than owners expect. We pack, load, haul and unpack, or send a crew for labor-only moving help if you rented the truck yourself. Businesses along the Boylston Highway and the airport side of town can book our commercial movers for office and shop relocations.

Residential Moves

Whole-house moves across Western North Carolina, including homes on steep or gravel drives.

Where Mills River sits and how we get there

The town covers about 22 square miles between Asheville, Hendersonville and Brevard. NC 280 is the main road through it, a four-lane highway across rural northwest Henderson County that meets I-26 at Exit 40 by Asheville Regional Airport. NC 191 crosses NC 280 in the middle of town and briefly shares its path.

The Mills River itself runs west to east through the center of town, and the French Broad River crosses the northeast corner. Sierra Nevada Brewing built its East Coast brewery and taproom here, on the French Broad two miles west of the airport. The busiest stretch of NC 280, with stores and hotels, lies just east of town near the interstate, so we set arrival windows with that traffic in mind.

Mills River properties and how they change move day

Housing here ranges from old farmhouses to newer homes on acreage. Each type brings its own planning questions:

  • Gated golf communities. High Vista is a gated mountain neighborhood built around an 18-hole course, and some of its lots are sloped. We need the gate code or a contact for the gate ahead of time.
  • Large-lot subdivisions. Mill Ridge is gated, with home sites of 2 to 4 acres. Long driveways are common, so tell us the length, grade and surface.
  • Farms and outbuildings. NC State’s Mountain Horticultural Crops Research and Extension Center covers 397 acres in Mills River, a sign of how much of the town is still working land. If you have a barn, workshop or equipment shed, mention it when you ask for a quote.
  • Homes out toward the North Mills River area. If your road is narrow or unpaved, photos or a short video of the drive help us size the job.

River flooding and what it means for buyers

As Helene arrived in September 2024, the Mills River spilled over its banks, and NASA satellite images showed floodwater across farmland near the airport. If your road or driveway near either river was patched after the storm, mention it with your quote request so the crew knows before it arrives. We also check NCDOT road-closure notices before setting each route. For a wider look at how the storm changed who moves into and out of the region, read our WNC Migration Study.

Commuting from Mills River

Many people choose Mills River because the airport, I-26 and South Asheville are close, yet the town stays rural. If you are moving here for a job and arriving before your belongings, we can arrange the best timing possible to deliver items when and where you need them. Secure on-site storage covers a gap between closings.

Nearby towns and your free quote

From Mills River we also move people in Etowah, Horse Shoe and Fletcher, plus Arden to the north and Brevard at the far end of NC 280. Send us both addresses, the size of the house and any outbuildings, and we will write up an estimate. Get a free quote below or call (828) 450-3315.

Moving in Mills River: common questions

Which roads do you use to reach Mills River?

Usually I-26 to Exit 40 at the airport, then NC 280 west. NC 191 also crosses the town from north to south.

Can you move me into a gated community like High Vista or Mill Ridge?

Yes. Send us the gate access details and any HOA rules on truck parking or move times before move day.

Do you move barns, sheds and workshops as well as the house?

Yes, as long as the items are loose and ready to load. List every outbuilding when you ask for a quote so the estimate covers it.

Was Mills River affected by Helene?

Yes. The Mills River overflowed its banks in September 2024 and fields near the airport flooded. If your road or driveway was repaired afterward, tell us when you request a quote.
