Moving Homes and Farms Around Leicester, NC

Leicester spreads across the coves and creek valleys about 10 miles northwest of Asheville. Our crews reach it from Patton Avenue by way of NC 63, the New Leicester Highway. We move everything from houses near the highway to farmhouses out in Sandy Mush.

Dry Ridge crews in Leicester

Call us with your Leicester address and a rough list of rooms. Many homes can be priced on that call. For a bigger house, a farm with outbuildings or a place you would rather we see, we can walk through it on site or over video. Your estimate arrives in writing.

Your move gets its own crew and truck, with nothing from another customer aboard. Furniture is wrapped in pads and shrink-wrap, and our packing crews can box up the whole house. Renting your own trailer or container instead? Book our moving help crews to load or unload it.

NC 63, the road that ties Leicester together

Leicester has no downtown. It is an unincorporated community with its own ZIP code, 28748, and NC 63 is the thread through it. Leaving Patton Avenue in Asheville as the New Leicester Highway, the route heads northwest and meets Newfound Road at the Dix Creek Chapel Road intersection. Past Leicester it runs by Grassy Knob and the Canto community on Little Sandymush Creek, then climbs to Doggett Gap and drops about 1,500 feet on a tightly winding grade into Madison County, ending at Trust.

That last stretch matters for moves between Leicester and western Madison County. Before we commit to a route or an arrival time, the crew reads NCDOT’s closure notices.

From highway neighborhoods to Sandy Mush farms

  • Homes along NC 63. Closest to Asheville and usually the easiest access. If your subdivision has an HOA, get its moving rules and send them with your quote request.
  • Coves and creek valleys. Plenty of Leicester houses sit up private lanes or gravel drives off roads like Newfound Road. Tell us the grade, the surface and whether there is room to turn around at the top.
  • Sandy Mush. This valley sits in the corner where Buncombe, Haywood and Madison counties meet, a landscape of low farms, streams and wooded ridges. Families there have farmed the same ground for generations, growing tobacco and tomatoes, and conservation easements now protect large tracts of it. Moving off a farm? Count the barn, shed and workshop when you describe the job.
  • Older farmhouses. Leicester began as Turkey Creek, with a post office from 1829, and took its current name in 1859. If your house is an older one, mention narrow stairs and steep porch steps.

Ridges, gaps and winter weather

The heart of Leicester sits near 2,100 feet, but the hills around it climb well above that. Weather on a cove road can be very different from weather on the highway.

When the forecast for move day shows ice, snow or another hazard, we phone you first and shift the start time or the date. We would rather reschedule than send a crew up an icy lane.
