A Fairview move might start at a farmhouse off Cane Creek Road or a house high on a wooded slope above the valley. We can price it by phone, or walk through the home with you in person or on a video call when the job is bigger, and you get the estimate in writing. Your belongings ride alone with one crew, and furniture goes out padded and shrink-wrapped. Book residential movers for the whole house, or moving help if you rented the truck or container yourself.

US 74A runs as a five-lane road from Asheville east to Fairview. Past the village it climbs a series of switchbacks to Hickorynut Gap, where it crosses the Henderson County line and the Eastern Continental Divide at 2,880 feet.
Beyond the gap, the road drops toward Gerton and Bat Cave in Hickory Nut Gorge. Before we set a route and an arrival time, the crew reads NCDOT closure notices for 74A and the roads around it.
Fairview covers about six square miles at 2,274 feet, home to roughly 2,800 people in the 28730 ZIP code.
Helene hit Fairview hard in September 2024. Cane Creek rose over its barriers, parts of Cane Creek Road collapsed, and the creek cut a new channel in places. Low-lying homes were lost.
Pipes and culverts weakened by the storm can still give way in a heavy rain. If your road was rebuilt or has a temporary crossing, mention it when you ask for a quote. Our WNC Migration Study tracks how the storm changed moves in and out of Buncombe County.
Hickorynut Gap sits about 600 feet above the village, and weather at the top can turn before it does in the valley. When a forecast calls for ice, snow or other hazards on your move day, we phone you to move the start time or the date rather than send a crew up an unsafe road.
For longer moves, Dry Ridge works across the Southeast. Interstate household moves run under USDOT 1803573, and moves inside North Carolina under NC Utilities Commission certificate C-2490. A long-distance price combines weight, cubic feet, distance and fuel cost. We can arrange the best timing possible to deliver items when and where you need them, and secure on-site storage can hold your things if closing dates don’t line up.
About 11 miles southeast of downtown Asheville on US 74A, also called the Charlotte Highway. Most local moves finish in a day, two at most.
Yes. US 74A climbs switchbacks to the gap at 2,880 feet before dropping into Hickory Nut Gorge. We check NCDOT closure notices before setting a route and arrival time.
Usually, yes. Tell us about any rebuilt section, temporary crossing or weight limit when you request a quote, and send photos of the drive so the crew knows what to expect.
It can slow weekend traffic from September into early November. A weekday move in fall avoids most of it.
