Moving services for Black Mountain homes and shops

Black Mountain moves run from a cottage off Cherry Street to a house up a private cove road. We can quote over the phone, or look the home over in person or by video for a larger move, and the estimate comes in writing. One crew and one truck carry your belongings only, and furniture is padded and shrink-wrapped. Our movers and packers can box the whole house, and our moving help crews will load a truck or container you rented.

State Street, Cherry Street and festival weekends

US 70 runs through town as State Street, with the older shopping blocks just north on Cherry Street and Sutton Avenue. I-40 passes south of downtown, with exits at NC 9 and US 70.

The Sourwood Festival has filled downtown each August since 1977, drawing more than 30,000 people. Recent festivals have closed Cherry Street, Sutton Avenue, Black Mountain Avenue and part of Vance Avenue, so check the dates before you book. The Blues Festival in late September and the Holly Jolly Celebration in December also crowd downtown. Near those streets, choose a date away from event weekends, or tell us yours and we will plan the loading spot.

Montreat, Ridgecrest and the cove roads

Much of the housing sits in hollows off the valley floor:

  • Montreat. A separate town of about 900 people two miles north on NC 9, in the Flat Creek valley, home to Montreat College and its conference center. Tell us if your street is narrow or steep.
  • Lake Tomahawk. Paved streets close to downtown around the town’s 16-acre lake park.
  • Ridgecrest. About two miles east, home to the Ridgecrest Conference Center (1907) and two summer camps. Staff moves often run on tight timelines, so send dates early.
  • Private cove roads. Some neighborhoods hang on one road kept up by a road maintenance association. Send photos of the drive and turnaround.

Flat Creek, private roads and storm recovery

Helene cut Black Mountain off in late September 2024. Flat Creek Road washed out, the water system went offline, and some coves could not drive out for days. High Rock Acres Road, the only way into that neighborhood, left residents isolated for more than a week, and its rebuild began in June 2025.

Some repairs are newer than the maps. If your road was rebuilt or still has a temporary crossing, say so with your quote request, and the crew checks NCDOT closure notices before setting a route. Our WNC Migration Study shows how the storm changed moves in and out of the valley.

Leaving Black Mountain over the Old Fort grade

Moves toward Charlotte head east on I-40 past Ridgecrest and down Old Fort Mountain, a winding six-mile grade with runaway truck ramps. Downtown sits at 2,333 feet, and winter can reach the gap before Asheville. If ice, snow or other dangerous conditions are forecast for move day, we call you to change the start time or date before a crew heads onto an unsafe road.

We move households throughout the Southeast under USDOT 1803573 and within North Carolina under NC Utilities Commission certificate C-2490. Long-distance pricing combines weight, cubic feet, distance and fuel cost. We can arrange the best timing possible to deliver items when and where you need them, and secure on-site storage covers gaps between closings.

Black Mountain, Montreat and the Swannanoa Valley

We also serve Montreat, Ridgecrest and the rest of eastern Buncombe County, plus Swannanoa down the valley and Weaverville north of Asheville.

Send the address, destination and anything about the road in: a private lane, a steep climb or a downtown block. Get a free quote below or call (828) 450-3315.
