Swannanoa moves, from campus housing to rebuilt homes

Swannanoa moves right now are not typical. Some people are settling into a repaired house, some are leaving a property sold through a buyout, and some are renting while they decide. Call for a phone quote, or have us see the home in person or by video for a bigger move, and the estimate comes in writing. One crew and one truck carry your things only, with furniture padded and shrink-wrapped. See our residential moving service, or if you rented a container, our moving help crews can load it.

Getting around Swannanoa: US 70 and Exit 59

US 70 is Swannanoa’s main street, with I-40 running alongside through the commercial area. From Asheville, I-40 Exit 59 at Patton Cove Road sits a third of a mile from US 70. Black Mountain is next to the east, Oteen one exit west.

The community sits at about 2,225 feet, strung along the river valley with side roads climbing into coves. The post office was lost in 2024, so give us a street address, not a box number, when you ask for a quote.

Swannanoa neighborhoods and what to tell us

  • Grovemont. E.W. Grove, developer of the Grove Park Inn, planned this village in the 1920s around a public square, and some original homes are Arts and Crafts designs in local stone. Mention porch steps and narrow stairways.
  • Warren Wilson College. On US 70 at Warren Wilson Road, with about 450 students, nearly all living on campus.
  • Bee Tree. Homes along Bee Tree Road, downstream from Bee Tree Lake, one of Asheville’s water sources. Send photos of steep drives and the turnaround.
  • Beacon Village. Around the old Beacon Blanket mill site, where Beacon Park, a pump track and bike park, is planned.

Moving in or out of Swannanoa during the rebuild

Swannanoa was among the hardest-hit places in Buncombe County when Helene arrived in September 2024. The river crested above 27 feet, Highway 70 was badly damaged, and homes and mobile home parks near the river were destroyed. As of July 2026 the post office and Ingles were still being replaced, and debris lined parts of Old US 70.

  • Selling through a buyout. FEMA had approved 251 of 278 Buncombe County buyout applications by June 2026. Give us your closing date. If the next home is not ready, our secure on-site storage can hold your belongings.
  • Buying a repaired home. Ask about flood history and elevation work before setting a move date.
  • Rebuilt roads. If yours has a temporary crossing or weight limit, tell us when you ask for a quote. The crew checks NCDOT closure notices before setting a route.

Long-distance moves and winter at the valley floor

I-40 is minutes from most addresses. We move households throughout the Southeast under USDOT 1803573 and within the state under NC Utilities Commission certificate C-2490. Long-distance pricing is based on weight, cubic feet, distance and fuel cost, and we can arrange the best timing possible to deliver items when and where you need them. If ice, snow or other dangerous conditions are forecast, we call to move the start time or date before a crew drives an unsafe road.

Swannanoa, Black Mountain and east Asheville

Next door we serve Black Mountain and Montreat, and west through Oteen and east Asheville, plus Arden south of the city.
